Everyones Brain is unique

Its something that is with us for our entire lives and essential for us to function in our everyday lives

But just like out bodies, our brains are able to get ‘sick’

Mental illnesses are fairly common, But .

However mental illnesses arent a new thing, They began gaining notice in 1883 by Emil Krapelin, a German psychologist who helped to coin the term itself. Emil discovered and published a comprehensive system of mental illnesses that centered around symptoms that were not always physical.

Just to give you an idea, about 20.6 percent of adults today have a mental illness and about 17 percent of youth have a mental illness.

So if that many people have it, then why arent we talking about it?

People often decide not to discuss mental health due to the stigma that surrounds them.

A stigma is known as a mark of disgrace, and has seemingly followed mental illnesses for most of the time they have been known. The main reason for this is traced to the lack of understanding and inaccurate information that surrounds mental illnesses

So what do you do if you think you have a mental illness?

The best way to start is to talk about it! Talking with your PCP is a great way to start to get the help that you need. They Will then begin to set you up with a therapist, psychiatrist or may prescribe a medication to help fix the hormonal imbalance that causes that specific mental illness

Its important that we take care of our brains so our bodys can function the best they can.
